Advisory Committee

The independent Advisory Committee is made up of individuals from our community. They are responsible on an ongoing basis for:

  • Selecting charities to receive grants from the General Fund
  • Determining the amounts to be distributed to the selected charities
  • Monitoring the actions of the Trustee

Advisory Committee Members:

Joan M. Taylor (Chair)
Board Member since: 2009

Dr. Taylor received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Tufts University in 1983 and subsequently moved to Saratoga Springs to begin practicing. Initially, she applied her expertise in equine medicine to develop a regional practice and later Stepwise Farm, a Saratoga-based business engaged in breeding and selling quality Thoroughbred racing prospects for the commercial market.

She perennially volunteers for nonprofit groups and has held leadership, fund raising and board positions for a variety of local organizations, including The Wesley Foundation, Saratoga Youth Soccer, The Travers Committee, Saratoga Regional YMCA, The Saratoga Golf and Polo Club, Saratoga Performing Arts Center and Saint Gregory’s School for Boys.

David R. Meager
Board Member since: 2009

David Meager is currently employed as Consultant for Adirondack Trust Insurance.  He is a member of Malta Sunrise Rotary Club, Malta Business and Professional Association, Malta Director of the GlobalFoundries/Town of Malta Foundation, Inc., charter member of the Chamber of Commerce of Southern Saratoga County, and a member of the Saratoga County Ethics Board.

Mr. Meager was formerly Supervisor of the Town of Malta and a member of the County Board of Supervisors for 34 years.  He was the former owner of Round Lake Company, Inc., an independent insurance agency acquired by the Adirondack Trust Company in 2001.

S. Scott Perkins
Board Member since: 2009

Scott Perkins is a lifelong resident of Saratoga County and is an attorney with a private law practice in Saratoga Springs.  He has served as a director or trustee of the Saratoga County YMCA, AAA New York State, AAA Northway, Brookside Museum, The Allegiance Bowl Committee, Saratoga Convention and Tourism Bureau, and the Racing City Chorus.

David H. Porter
Board Member since: 2009

David Porter is the Tisch Family Distinguished Professor at Skidmore College, where he teaches in the classics, English, and music departments.  Educated at Swarthmore (B.A., 1958) and Princeton (Ph.D., 1962), he previously taught at Carleton College, Princeton University, Williams College, and Indiana University, and was president of Carleton and Skidmore Colleges.  He is the author of books and articles on classics, music, 20thcentury literature, and education. Among the boards on which he has served are those of The Adirondack Trust Company, the Institute for the International Education of Students, and the Willa Cather Foundation.

Mary C. Gavin
Board Member since: 2009

Mary Gavin is Certified Public Accountant and a principal of Gavin and LaVigne, Inc., a firm offering capital financing to hospitals and nursing homes.She has held fundraising, leadership and board positions with the Gir Scouts, Saratoga Hospital and Saratoga Central Catholic School.

Ms. Gavin lives in Saratoga Springs with her husband and their three children.

Charles V. Wait
Board Member since: 2009

Charles V. Wait is a graduate of Cornell University. Mr. Wait began his banking career with The Adirondack Trust Company in 1974. In 1982 he was elected as a Director, 1984 as President and in 1989 as Chairman of the Board and CEO.

Mr. Wait currently serves as a Director of the New York Bankers Association,as a member of the Saratoga County Water Authority,  as a Director of Victaulic Inc., as a Director of the Museum of American Finance, as a Trustee of New York Racing Association and as a Member of the Center for Economic Growth.

His awards include the Outstanding New Yorker Award from the New York State Jaycees, he is a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International, a recipient of the 1997 Sam Walton Business Leader Award from WAL-MART, an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from SUNY Empire State College, the Denis B. Kemball Cook Award and the Lucy Skidmore Scribner Award, both from Skidmore College, the
Outstanding Business Leader Award from Northwood University and the Private Sector Initiative Award from President Ronald Reagan.

Mr. Wait is a past chairman of the Saratoga Performing Arts Center and the New York Bankers Association. He has also held positions on the board of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Skidmore College, Empire State College Foundation, New York Business Development Corporation and the Yaddo Corporation.

Mr. Wait is married with three grown children. He and his wife Candace reside in Saratoga Springs.

 

Advisory Committee members are appointed for a three-year term.
